Numerous officials have called on the U.S. government to adress cell tower and radiation health issues.

U.S. Congressman Christopher Smith

U.S. Congressman Chris Smith’s letter sent Aug. 16 2023 to Verizon’s corporate headquarters which Verizon “should not dismiss” the public’s concerns about 5G radiation and a possible cancer link.

“Although long-term human health studies have yet to be completed on 5G frequencies in this relatively new use of the technology, I believe it would be short sighted to dismiss health concerns until adequate and comprehensive studies have been conducted,” said Congressman Smith.

The Governor of Wyoming

Mark Gordon, Governor of Wyoming wrote a letter to the FCC stating,

“In response to the judgment by the U.S. Court of Appeals in the Environmental Health Trust case, I am requesting that appropriate actions be taken immediately to wireless radiofrequency radiation levels. I request that the FCC ensure an up to date examination of its wireless radiofrequency radiation regulations by reopening Docket 13-84 (“Reassessment of FCC Radiofrequency Exposure Limits and Policies”) to refresh the record before issuing its final response to the judgment.

The current scientific research must be immediately reviewed and acted upon in a timely manner so that the health and safety of our citizens is prioritized. Consumers must have accurate information related to the benefits and risks of the products and services available to them. Policies should be reflective of current scientific research performed in accordance with utilization. It is impossible for consumers to make educated decisions without accurate information; therefore, I am requesting that you take immediate action as directed by the courts to review the research and update any policies as necessary for the health and wellbeing of all citizens, including the most vulnerable, our children. ”

U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal

At a 2019 Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee hearing on the future of 5G wireless technology and their impact on the American people and economy, U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) raised concerns with the lack of any scientific research and data on the technology’s potential health risks. The full video of Blumenthal’s statement and exchange with industry representatives can be found here. Youtube video here.
Blumenthal blasted the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)—government agencies jointly-responsible for ensuring that cellphone technologies are safe to use—for failing to conduct any research into the safety of 5G technology, and instead, engaging in bureaucratic finger-pointing and deferring to industry.

School Cell Towers

State and federal lawmakers have voiced opposition to a school cell tower in Wyandotte Michigan.

U.S Congressman Shri Thanedar

U.S Congressman Shri Thanedar released a press statement saying that the cell tower on top of the school is unacceptable and spoke at an expert webinar with legal and science experts.

Michigan State Representative James Desana is introducing a state bill to restrict cell towers at schools. Environmental Health Trust submitted a scientific letter on the health effects of cellular radiation to Representative James Desana in support of the bill which documented the scientific research indicating harmful effects,” Cell antennas and cell towers should not be placed near schools and homes. Safety is not assured even if the cell tower is compliant with FCC limits.”

U.S. Representatives to the FCC

Several U.S. politicians have written to the FCC asking for information on the safety of 5G small cell infrastructure. Representatives Andy Kim (D-N.J.), Thomas Suozzi (D-N.Y.) and Peter Defazio (D-OR) each sent letters to the FCC expressing concerns about possible negative health impacts of  5G small cells.  Senator Richard Blumenthal (Connecticut) and Rep Anna G. Eshoo (California) also wrote  the FCC asking about documentation of safety re 5G.

“Small cell towers are being installed in residential neighborhoods in close proximity to houses throughout my district,” said Rep. Suozzi in his letter (PDF). “I have heard instances of these antennae being installed on light poles directly outside the window of a young child’s bedroom. Rightly so, my constituents are worried that should this technology be proven hazardous in the future, the health of their families and value of their properties would be at serious risk.”

“Current regulations governing radiofrequency (RF) safety were put in place in 1996 and have not yet been reassessed for newer generation technologies.” Rep. Kim said in his letter (PDF). “Despite the close proximity to sensitive areas where these high-band cells will be installed, little research has been conducted to examine 5G safety.”

Rep. Defazio noted that the Government Accountability Office made a similar assessment in 2012. “It is unacceptable that six years later the FCC still has not conducted a reassessment of its 1996 guidelines,” Defazio said in his letter (PDF).
