Minister Responds After Belgian Municipalities File Complaints About 5G
Some Telecom Providers are Forced to Halt Rollout
According to news reports, municipalities in Belgium are filing complaints about 5G, Telecom provider Proximus has stopped the roll-out of its “5G light” technology in Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve of the Walloon-Brabant province. The Telecom Minister is forced to respond about health issues.
“Belgian Telecom Minister Philippe De Backer has said again in the Belgian Parliament that radiation from transmission towers with 5G equipment is not known to be dangerous, Datanews reported. De Backer noted that Belgium is following the 5G standards put out by the World Health Organisation and the maximum levels allowed in Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels are even stricter than the international recommendations.
The minister made the statement in response to questions from members of the Committee for the Economy, Consumer Protection and Digital Agenda. According to MP Josy Arens, Proximus started its roll-out of 5G without consultation with municipalities in Flanders and Wallonia, despite concerns about possible health risks, among other issues. Arens said many people and mayors were surprised by the deployment. Five municipalities have filed complaints.

Telecom Provider Proximus had to deactivate the 5G network in various Belgian municipalities in mid-April, following complaints from the municipalities such as Ottignies-Louvain-la-Neuve and Namur. ”
A lawsuit from the Stop5GNL Foundation against the Dutch government was heard on 04 May, in an attempt to stop the rollout of 5G.
