Scientific experts including Dr. Devra Davis will be interviewed about the manufacturers’ warnings to be a distance away from the cell phone.
CBC investigators will feature the fine print instructions buried in phone manuals that instruct people to put distance between their phones and their bodies.
The investigation will air in an episode entitled “The secret inside your phone” by the award-winning CBC Marketplace program with prize-winning reporter Wendy Mesley.
“Wendy takes a closer look at a little known message inside your cellphone’s settings and manual telling you to keep the device 5 to 15 mm away from your body. We ask why this message exists, why it’s so hidden, and whether Health Canada is doing enough to protect us,” states the CBC National about the investigation.
Davis pointed out, “The American Academy of Pediatrics and Consumer Reports have both issued recommendations to reduce exposure to cell phones along with over a dozen other countries.”
Concern about cell phone radiation made headlines this month when the California Department of Public Health was court ordered to release suppressed advisory guidelines on “Cell Phones and Health” to University of Berkeley Professor Dr. Joel Moskowitz.
A decade ago, in 2007, the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute issued warnings about the health effects of cell phone radiation and sent a memo to the Cancer Institute’s 3,000 faculty and staff on how to reduce cell phone radiation exposure. These 2007 advisories were the first made by a medical institution in the United States and were followed by US Congressional hearings on the health effects of cell phone radiation in 2008 and 2009 where Davis noted that cell phones would be illegal if they were tested as used.
The CBC Report on The Secret Inside Your Cell Phone will air Friday night at 8 pm in Canada at http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/episodes/2016-2017/the-secret-inside-your-phone.
The Report will be available on the CBC YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/user/cbcnews.
In a 2017 International Conference of the Israel Institute for Advanced Studies (IIAS) held at Hebrew University, Dr. Anthony Miller—long-term advisor at the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, and advisor to Environmental Health Trust—detailed the current epidemiological research on long-term cell phone users and stated that the IIAS Forum epidemiology working group’s overall conclusions are that “the evidence has increased” and “radiofrequency fields should be considered a probable cause of human cancer.” Oncologist and researcher Lennart Hardell, MD, PhD, and colleague Michael Carlberg published a research review in BioMed Research International March 2017 which concludes that the current body of evidence indicates cell phone/wireless radiofrequency radiation “should be regarded as a human carcinogen.”
