Featured Speaker: Theodora Scarato MSW, Executive Director of
Environmental Health Trust

As environmentalists we know that though technology can be a positive force in society it often has had unforeseen consequences to our health and the health of our species and ecosystems. Shari Anker will briefly introduce Ms. Scarato by reporting on her lived experience as a person with Environmental Illness. Being a canary in the coal mine has been highly instructive, giving her valuable insight into the adage that what we do to the environment we do to ourselves.

How could the technology revolution impact our environment? A recent federal court case found the FCC ignored research on environmental impacts when it decided not to review its twenty five year old safety limits for wireless radiation. Scientific research has documented that wireless radiation can impact bees, birds, trees, plants. A recent review by U.S. experts asserts the urgent need for new regulations to protect wildlife. Further, the rush to 5G with billions of new interconnected devices is projected to increase energy consumption and contribute to climate impacts.

Theodora Scarato MSW is Executive Director of Environmental Health Trust (EHT), a scientific think tank that publishes research and educates policymakers on environmental health issues. EHT scientists are among the leading independent voices calling to halt 5G.

Scarato has published research on EMF policy and maintains EHT’s renowned EMF policy database.  As a petitioner in the historic lawsuit EHT et al. v the FCC, Scarato and EHT have spearheaded efforts to strengthen US wireless radiation limits. Scarato has lectured at the National Institutes of Health, the New Hampshire State 5G Commission, the University of California San Francisco and several international conferences. The Natural Resources Defense Council Amicus Brief highlighted the lack of environmental review for 5G and wireless networks and featured EPA ‘s letter to Scarato which confirms that there is no environmental agency ensuring safety for cellular radiation.
