Seven case reports have been published on people who developed health issues after 5G antennas were turned on near their home or workplace.
Hardell L. and Nilsson M. (2023). Case Report: A 52-Year Healthy Woman Developed Severe Microwave Syndrome Shortly After Installation of a 5G Base Station Close to Her Apartment. Annals of Clinical and Medical Case Reports. V10(16): 1-10
In this case report we present a woman aged 52 years who developed health problems consistent with the microwave syndrome after installation of a 5G base station facing her apartment at 60 meters’ distance. These symptoms consisted of e.g., headache, dizziness, concentration difficulties, fatigue, arrhythmia, skin burning and nose bleeding corresponding to the microwave syndrome. High radiofrequency (RF) radiation levels were measured in her apartment especially in the part closest to the base station.
Hardell, L., & Nilsson, M. (2023). Case Report: The Microwave Syndrome after Installation of 5G Emphasizes the Need for Protection from Radiofrequency Radiation. Annals of Case Reports.
In this case, report two previously healthy persons, a man aged 63 years and a woman aged 62 years, developed symptoms of the microwave syndrome after installation of a 5G base station for wireless communication on the roof above their apartment.
The RF radiation levels in the apartment were well below the limit proposed to be “safe” below which no health effects would occur, recommended by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation (ICNIRP). These now presented symptoms of the microwave syndrome were caused by non-thermal effects from RF radiation and highlight that the ICNIRP guidelines used in most countries including Sweden do not protect human health. Guidelines based on all biological negative effects from RF radiation are urgently needed, as well as monitoring human health, not the least due to rapidly increasing levels of exposure.
Hardell, L., & Nilsson, M. (2023). Development of the Microwave Syndrome in Two Men Shortly after Installation of 5G on the Roof above their Office. Annals of Clinical Case Reports, 8(1).
In this case study we describe two men, case 1 and case 2, working in three office rooms close to base stations. After the deployment of 5G, both men developed symptoms typical for the microwave syndrome, e.g., headache, tinnitus, dizziness, balance disorder, concentration and attention deficiency, and fatigue. Radiofrequency Radiation (RFR) after the 5G deployment was measured in the three offices. In office one maximum (peak) RFR during one minute varied from 463 to 1,180,000 μW/m2, in office two from 6,230 to 501,000 and in office three from 13,700 to 613,000 μW/m2. The symptoms disappeared in both men within a couple of weeks (case 1) or immediately (case 2) after leaving the office for other offices with much lower maximum peak RFR emissions, maximum for case 1 =16 and for case 2 =2,920 μW/m2. This case report may be regarded as a provocation study on health from 5G RFR. The clinical picture in both men was clearly related to the exposure, although the exposures were well below the guidelines recommended by ICNIRP that are claimed to protect against all health effects. We conclude that the guidelines for RFR exposure based only on tissue heating by ICNIRP are inadequate to protect human health and that 5G appears to provoke symptoms of microwave syndrome in previously healthy people.
Nilsson M, Hardell L (2023) A 49-Year-Old Man Developed Severe Microwave Syndrome after Activation of 5G Base Station 20 Meters from his Apartment. J Community Med Public Health 7: 382.
In this new case report a 49-year old previously healthy man is described. A 5G base station was installed 20 meters from his apartment. He rather immediately developed a variety of symptoms that are part of the microwave syndrome. Most severe were headache, dysesthesia (abnormal sensation), loss of immediate memory, high and irregular pulse, chest squeeze, burning and lancinating skin. Very high RF radiation was measured in his apartment, however much lower than the limits recommended by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). After moving to another apartment with low RF radiation the symptoms disappeared or decreased within a short time period but they reappear whenever he returns to his apartment close to the 5G antennas. This must be regarded as a provocation test on health and 5G radiation.
Nilsson, M., Hardel, L. (2023). 5G Radiofrequency Radiation Caused the Microwave Syndrome in a Family Living Close to the Base Stations. Journal of Cancer Science and Clinical Therapeutics, 7(2), 127-134.
In this article we examine a family of three persons living at distances of about 50 and 70 meters to two 5G base stations. The base stations are located on the top of two 6-floor buildings and the antennas are directed towards the family’s apartment on the 4th floor on the opposite side of the street.
The family members reported symptoms included in the microwave syndrome to varying self-estimated degrees. The daughter had the most severe health issues, for example sleeping problems, headache, concentration and memory problems, skin disorders, irregular heartbeat, light sensitivity, anxiety and panic attacks
Nilsson M, Hardell L, Case Report: Both Parents and their Three Children Developed Symptoms of the Microwave Syndrome while on Holiday near a 5G Tower. Ann Clin Med Case Rep. 2023; V12(1): 1-7
In this new case report we describe a previously healthy family of a man, a woman and their three children that rapidly developed symptoms of the microwave syndrome after arriving at a summer cottage located at 125 meters distance from a mobile phone tower with 5G antennas. The most severe symptoms for the adults were sleeping problems, headache, tiredness, and irregular heartbeat. The children got sleeping problems, diarrhea, pain in the stomach, skin rashes, headache, and emotional symptoms. All the symptoms disappeared and health was restored when the family returned to their own house at another place with no 5G base stations.
Hardell L, Nilsson M. A Woman aged 82 years with Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity since Almost Four Decades Developed the Microwave Syndrome after Installation of 5G Base Stations in her Living Vicinity – Ethical Principles in Medicine are violated Journal of Environmental Science and Public Health. 8 (2024): 01-08.
This article presents a woman aged 82 years with electromagnetic hypersensitivity (EHS) since almost four decades. After deployment of 5G base stations close to her living place she developed severe ill health including fatigue, dysesthesia, dizziness, balance disorder, and light sensitivity that all are included in the microwave syndrome. Also her 83 years old husband was affected, although to a minor extent. The ethical and moral principles in medicine that can be adopted for RF radiation illness are respect for life, human dignity, self-determination, medical care, justice, and benefit. These principles are central for ethics among physicists and other health care staff. All these principles were violated and in fact microwave illness with the variety of symptoms is not acknowledged as a disease by the medical community. This is mostly based on lack of scientific knowledge on this topic.

Hundreds of scientists are warning that safety is not assured because of numerous studies in people living near cell towers, exposed to RF radiation and in animal experiments that have found harmful effects from this type of radiation including cancer, memory impacts and oxidative stress. Insurance company reports compare the RF radiation issue to asbestos and repeatedly rate cell tower, 5G and RF radiation as “High Risk” and this is why insurance companies exclude coverage for health damages from the RF radiation as industry standard.
European Parliament requested a research report “Health Impact of 5G” which was released in July 2021 and concluded that commonly used RFR frequencies (450 to 6000 MHz) are probably carcinogenic for humans and clearly affect male fertility with possible adverse effects on the development of embryos, fetuses and newborns.
A review entitled “Evidence for a health risk by RF on humans living around mobile phone base stations: From radiofrequency sickness to cancer reviewed the existing scientific literature and found radiofrequency sickness, cancer and changes in biochemical parameters (Balmori 2022).
