The Argentine Society of Pediatrics webpage on cell phone radiation and children’s health care states:

The main consequence of the interaction between non-ionizing radiation and the human body is tissue heating. However, extensive scientific reports have documented non-thermal biological effects from chronic exposure.

With respect to the child population on non-ionizing radiation, the absorption rate of microwave radiation (MWR) is greater in girls and boys than in adults because their brain tissues are more absorbent, their skulls are thinner, and their relative size is minor. The fetus is particularly vulnerable to microwave radiation (MWR), affecting a protective sheath of its neurons.
The American Academy of Pediatrics encourages more research studies to be carried out on the long-term effects of cell phone use, especially in childhood. It also proposes the revision of standards to adapt them to the current use of these devices.

Taking into account that girls and boys will have prolonged and cumulative exposure to these radiations, the objective is to prevent the risks given that these devices have greater use in our daily lives. Biological effects are directly related to the potency and duration of exposure. Children are more vulnerable to the radiation emitted, so it is about minimizing the risks

The Argentine Society of Pediatrics has developed a series of recommendations on cell phone radiation and children’s health care, including:

  • ● Use a cell phone within 15 cm. Distance reduces risks.
    ● Unless a cell phone is turned off, it is always radiating.
    ● When not in use, it should not be kept on the body. The best place for a cell phone is in purses or backpacks.
    ● Devices should be kept away from a pregnant woman’s abdomen and a mother should not use a cell phone while she is breastfeeding.
    ● Baby monitors should not be placed in a baby’s crib.
    ● Girls, boys and adolescents need to know how to use these devices safely. Remove cell phones from bedrooms while they sleep.
    ● Because the risk is cumulative and radiation is absorbed with more hours of use, they should learn to minimize cell phone use.
    ● Connecting to the Internet with a cable does not emit radiation and its use should be encouraged. Use wired cell phones or the “hands-free” system.
    ● Home Wi-Fi routers should be placed away from where people, especially girls and boys, spend most of their time.
    ● Do not keep cell phones near genital areas.
    ● Don’t let your child use a cell phone unnecessarily.
    ● It should be used to listen to music or play games in “Airplane mode”.
    ● Using WhatsApp or MSN is less risky than making calls.
    ● Use the cordless phone as little as possible.
    ● Limit cell phone use to areas with “good reception” since the lower the reception, the more radiation it emits and the deeper and more dangerous the radio frequency waves are.
    ● Avoid carrying your cell phone on on your body and do not sleep with your cell phone under your pillow.
    ● Respect others, many people are highly sensitive to radio frequency.
