Unbreathable: The Fight for Healthy Air
Unbreathable is a timely, powerful look at fifty years of the Clean Air Act and the challenges we still face to ensure healthy air for everyone. The film is co-directed and executive produced by award-winning filmmaker Maggie Burnette Stogner of American University’s Center for Environmental Filmmaking.
This 30-minute film premieres at a critical time. Asthma is the number one health issue for children, and recent research links air pollution to higher cases and deaths from COVID-19. Environmental regulations and enforcement of existing laws are being stripped away when the need for renewable energy is more urgent than ever.
Directed and executive produced by award-winning filmmaker Maggie Burnette Stogner and produced by Elizabeth Joy Herzfeldt-Kamprath, Unbreathable was made with support from the American Lung Association, AU’s Center for Environmental Filmmaking, AU’s Center for Environmental Policy, and the Hanley Foundation. MAGGIE BURNETTE STOGNER, DIRECTOR & EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
Maggie brings 30 years of award-winning filmmaking experience to this project and is the Executive Director of the Center for Environmental Filmmaking at American University. She is founder of Blue Bear Films, an independent production company of documentaries and world-touring museum films http://maggiebluebear.media. She was a producer and Senior Producer of National Geographic’s weekly series “Explorer” for nine years. Her acclaimed indie film about criminal justice “In the Executioner’s Shadow”(2018) is distributed by New Day Films. She is an executive member of WIFV in Washington D.C., a voting member of the Academy of TV Arts and Sciences, and a judge for National Emmy Awards.
