World’s largest cell phone radiation animal study found increased brain and heart tumors in exposed rats.

Ronald L. Melnick, PhD led the design of the NTP/NIEHS Rodent Study

“This is the best designed animal study every conducted on this topic.” Chris Portier former Head of the US National Toxicology Program.
World’s largest cell phone radiation animal study found increased brain and heart tumors in exposed rats.

WHEN: June 1 at 9 am EST; 4 pm IDT

WHAT: US Toxicologist who designed the US Government Rodent Study, and Experts in Non-Ionizing Radiation will be discussing then just-released US Government’s National Toxicology Program Study (see recent coverage by the WSJ, Consumer Reports, PBS, Mother Jones in below section).

  • What were the research findings?
  • Why is this research so important?
  • Are these findings relevant to understanding human risks from cell phones?
  • How strong are these results?
  • What should health authorities do with this information?

WHO: Ronald L Melnick, PhD, Martha Herbert Ph.D., M.D., Michal Linial PhD and Devra Davis, PhD MPH, Meg Sears, PhD

Panel Biographies

Ronald L Melnick, PhD. lead the design of the NTP/NIEHS Rodent Study and will discuss how the study was carefully developed to test for a carcinogenic effect from cell phone radiation. Melnick was a Senior Toxicologist and Director of Special Programs in the Environmental Toxicology Program at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) National Institutes of Health, USA and is now retired.

Martha Herbert Ph.D., M.D. iis an Assistant Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School, a Pediatric Neurologist and Neuroscientist at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, and an affiliate of the Harvard-MIT-MGH Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging, where she is director of the TRANSCEND Research Program (Treatment Research and Neuroscience Evaluation of Neurodevelopmental Disorders).

Michal Linial PhD is Director of The Sudarsky Center for Computational Biology, Department of Biological Chemistry, Institute of Life Sciences, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She serves in the Board of Directors and as a Vice-President of the International Society of Computational Biology.

Devra Davis, PhD MPH, is President of the Environmental Health Trust, a non-profit scientific and policy think tank focusing on cell phone radiation. She was the founding director of the Board on Environmental Studies and Toxicology of the U.S. National Research Council and Founding Director, Center for Environmental Oncology, University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute and a former Senior Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Health in the Department of Health and Human Services and a member of the NTP Board of Scientific Counselors from 1983 to 1986.

Margaret (Meg) Sears, PhD chairs and is lead scientist for Prevent Cancer Now. Dr. Sears was trained in Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry at the University of Toronto, Canada. She worked in energy research, then returned to academia to complete doctoral research in biochemical engineering at McGill University. With skills in scientific analysis and writing, Dr. Sears gained associations with Ottawa research institutes, has led and published federally-funded research in environmental health, provided expert advice, and lectured at several Canadian universities on topics including epidemiology and toxicology.
